Right through college, us girls have always discussed the 'bases'. I still remember Red Head and I talking about it and assimilating the gyaan from Utopia about what they really meant! haha :D
These days, I doubt people really take any time to move from no base to base four. It's only in 'our days' (ahhem!) that they had any relevance. ;) Haa!
Here is a 'graphic' (for real) description of the base system on my favourite comic strip- Hilarious!
But the world of internet and technology sees us go through many "bases" before we actually 'date'. (And trust me, this is true for a lot of people I know!)
Base 1: Should I add him on gtalk? Should I ping him now? Shall I wait for him to ping me? ( ;) ) (extremely cautious)
Base 2: (After the chatting begins) He said he missed bugging me online. Awwww! :) (I think he likes me! Or am I just his muse?)
Base 3: Hey can we voice chat? Video too maybe? (Oh no, am I looking okay?)
Base 4: (After lots of exuberant chatting, with, without video and the like) Long nights on voice chat/video. Inhibitions all out the window.(All that sweat.. )
Base 5: Hey! I'll catch you later. ( :| warmth?)
Gospel Truth: 'Principally', once you cross base four, it's all the same! ha!

Hilarious !!! Took me back to the 1st time I heard about this and we made our own definitions of what each base meant - Its about time we had defined standards ;)
